Tribal citizens,
We are currently monitoring the ongoing winter weather approaching central Louisiana. Before the weather arrives, we encourage those who may be affected to make the appropriate preparations and to reach out with any needs.
A full list of recommended supplies and preparations can be found here.
Please remember to check on elders and anyone else who may need assistance in preparing for this threat. Our community is our greatest asset, and it is important we look out for one another, especially in trying times.
We have reserved a block of rooms for those in need at Paragon Casino Resort. PLEASE NOTE, rooms will only be given to those who have a catastrophic event at their home such as no water, no electricity, etc. Anyone who obtains a room but has had no damage to their home/resources will be held liable for costs incurred while staying at Paragon Casino Resort.
Additional information on the room blocks may be found below. For those who have pets and may need room accommodations, you will be directed to stay in the cabins at the RV Park.
A link to our catastrophic form is also included below. Please do not fill out the form unless you actually have damage to report and invoices/receipts to submit along with the form. For questions, please email info@tunica.org.
In addition to making shelter arrangements, we encourage all of our Tribal citizens to follow advisories from state and local officials as well as the National Weather Service.
We are in this together and will get through these difficult times. As always, please reach out to your Tribal Administration with any needs you may have. We have also included an emergency contact list for you to refer to.
Sincerely,
Chairman Marshall Pierite
PREPARING FOR WINTER WEATHER
Prepare your home to keep out the cold with insulation, caulking and weather stripping. Learn how to keep pipes from freezing. Install and test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors with battery backups. Gather supplies in case you need to stay home for several days without power. Keep in mind each person’s specific needs, including medication. Remember the needs of your pets. Have extra batteries for radios and flashlights.
TEMPORARY HOUSING FOR TRIBAL CITIZENS
For your safety, we have reserved a block of rooms at Paragon Casino Resort to temporarily house citizens who can not remain at their own home. We have a limited number of rooms so we will give priority booking to Tribal elders and those with critical needs. Tribal citizens will be asked for their Tribal role number when booking. If your group is larger than four people, you will possibly be allowed to book a second room. Please note, these rooms are intended for Tribal citizens only.
We have included instructions below on our process for requesting a room.
