The tribe’s Housing Authority requires that existing homeowners or future homeowners for those planning to build on the reservation must maintain the lots where they reside or will reside. Lawns must be maintained and cut regularly. If tribal homeowners fail to keep their lawns in good shape, the Housing Authority has the ability to step in, have the lot cut and cleaned, and following that, the Authority may bill tribal members who have been delinquent in the care of their lots.
The Authority also has the power to pursue the garnishment of per capita payments to members who fail to keep up the land around their homes. The entire purpose of this requirement is to assure the upkeep of tribal lands by members who benefit from the use of the land at no expense to themselves. Tribal lawyer, Jeanne Laborde will be working on procedures for the implementation of this action when required by the Authority.
